Salford: The Works of L.S. Lowry

Salford is a mere 5 kilometers away from downtown Manchester. It is a university town, but has a lot of fantastic attractions. Ordsall Hall, for example, is several centuries old and houses a gorgeous Great Hall. You should definitely stop at Bridgewater Canal, a well-preserved waterway that has been in use for years. One of the main things that people stop by Salford for, however, is the art of L.S. Lowry. His works are showcased in an art gallery on Salford Quays. The Lowry Centre is beautifully constructed, and ornamented with Lowry’s inimitable work. The most iconic are those of Salford scenes, with “matchstick” figures. The Lowry Centre is also home to two incredible performing arts theaters.

Altrincham: The Old Market Town

Altrincham is known for being a market town. It has been operating for over 7 centuries, and people come from far and wide to pay a visit. You can stop by Stamford Park and take in some history. The town’s medieval market square is a great stop, though it can be depressing to take in the restored whipping post and the stories of thieves and accused witches that once stood there. One place that you shouldn’t miss is the Dunham Massey Hall.
